Precision Engineered
on the Nile

Cuarzo Del Nilo is DEXPRO's engineered quartz brand, built on the same verified export discipline DEXPRO applies to its mineral lines. Every slab is produced to consistent colour, density and finish tolerances and shipped through Egypt's principal export ports — Sokhna, Damietta, Port Said and Burullus — to fabricators and distributors in North America and Europe.

Why Egypt, Why Now

Cuarzo Del Nilo is produced on Breton Minerali technology — the Italian benchmark for engineered stone. Breton SpA invented the engineered stone process; their production lines set the global standard for surface quality, colour consistency and dimensional precision.

DEXPRO is Egypt's number one exporter of engineered quartz slabs to the USA market, with the first confirmed trial shipment already arrived and quality verified at a US port — competing directly against Korean, Indian and German origins on both quality and price.

The structural duty advantage is decisive. Egyptian quartz enters the US under HTS 6802.99.00 at 2.5–2.8% import duty — versus 145%+ for Chinese origin and 28.5% for India.

Handle With
Knowledge

Engineered quartz is inert and safe as an installed surface. The hazard is generated exclusively during fabrication — cutting, grinding, drilling and polishing — when it releases airborne respirable crystalline silica (RCS) dust. This section summarises the GHS-aligned safety data DEXPRO issues with every Cuarzo Del Nilo shipment.

⚠ Regulatory Alert — verified July 2026

California. On 21 May 2026, California's Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board voted unanimously to advance emergency rulemaking that would prohibit the fabrication and installation of engineered stone containing more than 1% crystalline silica — the same threshold used in Australia's total ban on engineered stone, in force since July 2024. Cuarzo Del Nilo, like virtually all engineered quartz, typically contains 90%+ crystalline silica.

This is not yet a final rule — Cal/OSHA must still draft the standard and the Board must vote again — but it is a fast-tracked process, and California's separate STOP Act (SB 20) already bans dry-cutting statewide and requires fabrication shops to hold silica-safety certification by 1 July 2027. Treat California as an at-risk market for this product category and confirm current rule status before committing to any California-bound order.

02Hazard Identification

Solid, installed slab: not classified as hazardous under GHS in normal use.

Dust generated by cutting / grinding / drilling / polishing:

  • H350 — May cause cancer by inhalation (respirable crystalline silica)
  • H372 — Causes damage to lungs through prolonged or repeated inhalation exposure (silicosis)
  • H335 — May cause respiratory irritation
  • H315 / H319 — Causes skin and eye irritation

Signal word for fabrication operations: DANGER

03Composition

Crystalline silica (quartz, SiO₂) — CAS 14808-60-7~90–93% by weight¹
Unsaturated polyester / epoxy resin binder~7–10% by weight¹
Inorganic pigments & additives<1% by weight¹
¹ NoteIndustry-typical range. The certified composition for each batch is stated on the accredited laboratory certificate (Control Union / TÜV Rheinland) issued per shipment — request it before finalising any order where exact silica content must be declared.

04First-Aid Measures

  • Inhalation: Remove to fresh air. Persistent cough or shortness of breath after dust exposure requires medical evaluation for silicosis.
  • Skin contact: Wash with soap and water.
  • Eye contact: Flush with water for 15 minutes; seek medical attention if irritation persists.
  • Ingestion: Not an expected exposure route for solid slab.

07Handling & Storage

  • Store slabs vertically on fully-supported A-frame racks, in a dry, covered area.
  • Wet-cutting only. Dry-cutting is prohibited under California's STOP Act and is not recommended in any jurisdiction.
  • Use integrated water delivery at the point of cutting / grinding / polishing plus local exhaust ventilation (LEV) with HEPA filtration.
  • Do not dry-sweep fabrication dust — use wet methods or a HEPA-filtered vacuum.

08Exposure Controls / PPE

11Toxicological Information

Respirable crystalline silica is classified by IARC as a Group 1 human carcinogen by inhalation. Chronic inhalation of RCS dust from fabrication is linked to silicosis (an irreversible, progressive lung disease), lung cancer, COPD and autoimmune disease. This risk applies to fabrication and installation dust exposure — not to the finished, sealed, installed surface in normal residential or commercial use.

13–14Disposal & Transport

  • Solid offcuts: dispose of as construction / inert waste per local regulations.
  • Fabrication slurry: dewater and dispose of per local solid-waste rules; never discharge to storm drains.
  • Not classified as dangerous goods for sea, air or road transport in solid slab form. Standard export crating on A-frames.

15Regulatory Information

  • USA: OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200); OSHA Respirable Crystalline Silica Standard (29 CFR 1910.1053)
  • California: Cal/OSHA Title 8 §5204; STOP Act / SB 20 (in force since 1 January 2026) — see Regulatory Alert above
  • EU: CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008; REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006
  • Global: UN GHS, Revision 9

This section is a condensed Safety Data Summary for catalogue and specification use. A full 16-section GHS Safety Data Sheet, product-specific composition certificate and NORM / radiological test report (where applicable) are issued per shipment by DEXPRO's accredited partners — Control Union, TÜV Rheinland and CCIC Africa — and are available on request against a confirmed order.
