TiO₂ — Natural Rutile
6–12%
Deposit Concentration
Black Sand Aerial · Mediterranean
Coastline · 11 Sites
Overview

Natural rutile is the highest-value titanium feedstock, with TiO₂ content of 95–97%. Egyptian rutile from the Mediterranean black sand deposit represents a premium, chloride-grade mineral for aerospace titanium sponge production and specialist applications.

While lower in deposit concentration (6–12%), rutile commands significantly higher pricing than ilmenite and is in sustained demand from the aerospace sector, driven by increasing aircraft production and lightweight structural applications.

Applications
Aerospace-Grade Titanium Metal
Rutile is the preferred feedstock for chloride-process titanium sponge production — the raw material for aerospace-grade Ti alloys used in aircraft frames, engines and fasteners.
Medical Implants
High-purity titanium derived from rutile used in orthopaedic implants, dental implants and surgical instruments for its biocompatibility and corrosion resistance.
Premium TiO₂ Pigment
Chloride-process pigment plants use rutile as the primary high-grade feedstock — producing superior brightness and opacity versus ilmenite-derived pigment.
Welding Flux Wire
Rutile used as coating material on premium welding electrodes for high-strength steel fabrication and shipbuilding.

Monazite is a strategically critical mineral containing rare earth elements — cerium, lanthanum, neodymium — and radioactive thorium. Egyptian monazite from the Mediterranean black sand deposit carries significant REE and thorium concentrations.

Regulated export. Monazite export requires compliance with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) regulations and Egyptian nuclear licensing authority. DEXPRO facilitates fully compliant transactions for qualified buyers only.

⚠ Compliance Note

Monazite export requires IAEA-compliant documentation, Egyptian Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) licensing and buyer qualification. DEXPRO facilitates fully compliant transactions. Contact office@dexpro.com.co for qualified buyer enquiries.

Applications
Rare Earth Element Extraction
Cerium, lanthanum and neodymium extracted for magnets, catalysts, phosphors and advanced electronics.
Nuclear Industry — Thorium
Thorium extracted from monazite is a potential nuclear fuel. Several countries are developing thorium-based reactor programmes.
Uranium Recovery

Leucoxene

TiO₂·FeO — Altered Ilmenite
65–90%
TiO₂ · Upgraded Feedstock
Processing · Quality Control
Aerial · Deposit Site
Overview

Leucoxene is naturally upgraded ilmenite — formed when ilmenite weathers and loses iron, increasing TiO₂ content to 65–90%. This makes it a premium intermediate titanium feedstock, positioned between ilmenite and rutile in the titanium value chain.

DEXPRO is one of the few Egyptian exporters of leucoxene, having received a Control Union Pre-Shipping Inspection certificate (ORE095.23) for 207 jumbo bags — 310,500 KG — from the Burullus factory in November 2023. It remains the benchmark for verified leucoxene exports from Egypt.

Applications
TiO₂ Pigment FeedstockPremium
Higher TiO₂ content than standard ilmenite reduces acid consumption in the sulphate pigment process and increases pigment yield per tonne of feedstock.
Synthetic Rutile Production
Leucoxene is upgraded further via the Becher or chloride process to produce synthetic rutile (90–95% TiO₂), a high-grade chloride pigment feedstock.
Titanium Metal Sponge
High-TiO₂ leucoxene used as chloride feedstock for titanium metal sponge production via the Kroll process.
Specialty Coatings
High-purity leucoxene used in specialty heat-stable coating systems requiring elevated TiO₂ content.

Specialty
Advanced Industrial
Mineral Close-Up · Specialty Grade
Mediterranean Reserve
Overview

Titanite — also known as sphene — is a specialty calcium titanium silicate found in the Egyptian black sand deposit. While present in smaller concentrations than ilmenite or zircon, it commands premium pricing in specialty ceramics and rare earth processing applications.

Egyptian titanite is distinguished by its high TiO₂ equivalent content combined with rare earth element inclusions, making it valuable for advanced industrial ceramic production where precise titanium content and REE co-extraction are required.

Applications
Specialty Ceramics
Titanite used in high-performance technical ceramics requiring precise Ti/Si/Ca ratios — including dielectric ceramics and specialty refractories.
Rare Earth Co-extraction
REE inclusions in Egyptian titanite extracted as a by-product during processing — particularly lanthanum and cerium group elements.
Gemological Applications
High-clarity titanite (sphene) exhibits exceptional fire and dispersion — valued as a collector gemstone and in precision optical applications.
Research & Advanced Materials
Titanite used in advanced materials research for nuclear waste immobilisation and specialty glass compositions with high refractive index requirements.
